Two vampires introduce you to their world

Welcome

Humans portray vampires as monsters, terrible beasts that roam the night.  They also portray us as fictional.  I am here to tell you that neither of those things are necessarily true.

My name is Brianna and I am a recently made vampire.  I am going to use this blog to tell you about the vampire world, the world that you humans never see.

When a vampire is created, a mentor is assigned to train him or her in the ways of the vampire world.  Alistair is my mentor.   I have talked him into posting here too.  I hope you will find my questions and his answers interesting.

If you have questions please feel free to ask them in a comment.

how may i become a truly remarkable being like you i wish to become that of which i love a true vampire please help me.

    Dear Azriel,

Before you become a Vampire it is very important that you get your Human life in order. The reason I say this is that if you are not enjoying life as a Human, a life that lasts a mere 70 or 80 years, then what will happen if you live 7,000 years? You will find yourself living in hell.

Tell me more about your Human situation and I’ll try and guide you on a path that leads you to the Vampire Way.

    Yours sincerely,
    Alistair

Hello Brianna! I would just like to ask a few questions about you before you “turned”. While you were human, were you ever aware of what you were about to become or was it more of a surprise? Were you just a normal girl that one day woke up to have your entire world changed? I have had an obsession with vampires for a while now, and everyday it seems I am trying to learn more about vampires, even though the vast majority of the things I find online are associated with role playing, movies, and fiction. Now that I have the chance to ask whatever I want, my mind draws a blank except for this question. I have been trying to read as many of the posts on here as possible, and I am sure more questions will rise later. For now however, I just want to know about the girl before the fangs :) Was the change a gradual one, or was it a fairly quick process?

  4. Brianna on October 24th, 2008 2:46 pm

    Hi Jennifer!

I am not sure how far back you want me to go. I never thought I was going to be a vampire, or really even believed in them until I met the one who turned me (I can’t refer to him by name). Even then, it was an unregulated turn (meaning he didn’t clear it with the Council) and I think that if I wasn’t related to Alistair, I’d be in deep s***t right now. So, I guess it was a surprise. He pretty much didn’t tell me what he was doing. I actually am kind of uncomfortable talking about it.

The change was pretty quick. I was unconscious through most of it, so I don’t have a lot to tell there. I still don’t really know how long it took, because when I woke up the one who changed me had been assassinated. The only reason I was alive was because he’d hidden me for fear of being discovered by the Council. So, I was pretty disoriented and very hungry when I first woke up.

I know Alistair is working with our writer friends to write a book about him… and I’m supposed to be working with Julia on it, but our schedules are pretty out of wack. I’m sure she and I will meet up soon and get cracking on it though, then you can have a biography to read along with the blog!

“The girl before the fangs” huh? I like it. :)

Feel free to ask any questions you want. I’ll try to answer you promptly, but I’ve been very busy lately, so it may take a couple days. I’ll be writing a post about what I’ve been up to soon.

hello Alistair. I have a short question for you. Are you happy with your life? If you had a chance to start over would you return to human life?
I lost many people in my life and I know the feel of pain and sorrow, but how can you feel this pain for centuries and how can you experience it over and over again? How can you love or have family when you know they will die and live you alone forever? Or you never loved in your life?….then comes the question how can you live without love and be lonely forever… I dont know if it worth it, live forever but be unhappy. You probably have stoned heart and dont fell anything, but why live immortal life like a rock instead of live mortal life as a happy human being?
Sorry, i might sound dipressing, but I have read so many massages from teenagers that were begging vampires to “turn” them, and they didn’t understand the curse of loosing everyone you love and being lonely forever. they see only the fuction part from books and movies, but nobody really understand the hole truth.
and another question, how many languages you speak? you probably know more than English since you lived for 600 years. The deal is I’m from Russia but I also speak 5 languages almost in perfection.
well, thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you soon

    Sincerely,
    Anya

    Hey Anya,

Excellent questions. You bring up some very good points.

One of the reasons I chose Grahame Scott-Douglas as my biographer is because of his short story The Final Victim. Although it is just fiction and Turning is not actually done the way he describes, I was impressed by how he understood what you talked about: the boredom, loneliness, loss and guilt that can make a Vampire’s life a living hell.

I have been lucky because early on I found a group of Vampires who became my group, my friends, my family, so I have rarely suffered the feelings of loss when someone I was close to died and I carried on. And I certainly have not lived without love, and by that I mean love of both the platonic and the romantic kind (what would life be without that?).

Loss has happened. There have been Humans that I have been close to who either chose not to become Vampires or never knew about it. When they came to the end of their lives I felt the loss. If I look back I can feel that loss again.

I don’t know what your religious beliefs are, but most religions have a concept of an afterlife or (as in the case of reincarnation) another life. I am a Gnostic and the immortality of the spirit is a concept I believe in. So when someone dies, I don’t think of it as a permanent loss. I know that we will meet up again and that takes away some of the pain.

Another thing that has kept me sane and wanting to continue living this long life, is that I have a goal to help improve this world. I want to see Humans and Vampires working together and achieving great things.

I hate to say it, but having an enemy (the Kuk Vampires) has kept the game interesting and has been another factor in keeping me alive.

So, when I look back over my 600 years I don’t have many regrets. I would not change what happened to me. I am happy with my life.

Don’t get me wrong. I have seen Vampires go mad and I have seen Vampires kill themselves, so I don’t think this is a suitable life for everyone. But, it’s not bad if you have the right temperament.

You asked me about languages: I speak a few languages. I have not had a chance to use anything but English (actually “American English” if you can call that “English”) for many years so I am getting rather rusty, but I think I would pick them up again quite easily if I had to.

I never learned Russian. Most of my time has been spent in western Europe and America.

Thanks again for your very good questions. Please ask any more you may have and tell your friends about our site.

    Alistair

can you make me one i understand the losses i would endure

  8. Brianna on March 19th, 2009 3:19 pm

    Dear Anthony,

Being a recently made vampire, I think I can help you there.

First, when you become a vampire, you have to learn how to remain human. Some vampires lose their human selves and behave like animals. Most of them are restrained and re-educated or killed.

Second, you can’t continue to have a family if you are a vampire. Human families don’t really understand or believe that you are now vampire. Worse, you could forget yourself and feed on a loved one, which would be terrible in the extreme.

Third, you have to give up food. You have no idea how hard that is. I had zero chocolate on Valentine’s day, no pumpkin pie or turkey on Thanksgiving, had NO Italian food in Italy (I’m still upset about that one, can you tell?).

Someone once explained how quitting smoking feels as “needing to pee every five minutes, but not being able to”. That’s how quitting food feels. We drink blood to fill up, but it’s not a delicious as a good banana split or something.

Maybe drinking fresh human blood instead of the synthetic stuff would be different, but then again I couldn’t live with myself drinking fresh blood.

Fourth, you have no idea how much stuff you do in the sun without thinking about it. As a vampire, you have to be constantly aware of the sun, of yourself and how you’ve protected yourself against the sun.

Not only do you have to give up things when you become vampire, but you have to live with some things for hundreds of years.

    Like, yourself and your past.

There’s no running away from that when you are going to live for centuries. Some vampires have gone crazy because they are haunted by past actions. Others find ways to deal with it and still others believe they are cursed forever.

Becoming vampire is a huge and terrible decision. I didn’t really get to make it myself, and I’m not sure I would have if I were given a choice. I’m glad I have Alistair helping me – he’s the only family I really have anymore.

Let me know if you want Al to answer too, kay?

    -Bri

  9. Alistair on March 19th, 2009 6:48 pm

    Hey Anthony,

Becoming a Vampire is not just a matter of a bite, a suck and you’re it. There is actually a quota. We have to keep the Vampire population at a low enough level so we are not noticed in society.

To become a Vampire also requires a period in which you have to prove yourself up to the task.

And prior to that you have to find a Vampire to sponsor you.

So that’s your first task if you really want the job, find a Vampire and persuade him or her to sponsor you.

    Good luck.

  10. Kasie on July 27th, 2009 11:13 pm

Hello there Alistair. I have been deciding lately if vampires are real or not so I’ve been checking google to see what it came up with. Some how I accidently got onto this site and its the most believable one yet. The rest are all goth and sinister. But I really dont think vampires are all that much into it. Its just my opinion. Im 19 and still believe in magic. Ha Ha. Anyway I noticed on your March 19th reply that you replied that vampires are trying to make sure society doesnt notice you. So if thats true why put up this website for the world to know? And I really want to believe but this site is just a little to convincing, plus the stories I read on here look like they’ve been written by a professional. I hope you reply, and you can always write me to my email.

P.S. Even if this website is true or not I think I’ll name one of my sons (If I have any) Alistair. Its a very beautiful name. Thanks

  11. Alistair on July 28th, 2009 7:02 pm

    Hello Kasie,

After a complement like that on my name and on my writing ability that how can I fail to respond to your comment?

Vampires in general have been trying to stay out of the limelight (pun intended) for a long time. The concern is that there would be a lot of panic if it became known that we existed and perhaps governments or the military would try to take action against us.

However, Brianna and I think it better to introduce the idea that we exist and at the same time demonstrate that we are not a threat to humanity but are actually beneficial.

I hope we are succeeding but I’ll have to leave the final word on that to you and the others who read this site.

BTW, “Alistair” is the Scottish version of “Alexander”, so you would be naming your son after Alexander the Great. A fine choice I would say.

  12. Brianna on July 31st, 2009 4:37 pm

Hi Kasie! Just don’t get upset if someone calls your son “Al” ok? Alistair flips out about it… but come on, we’re an abbreviated society. American’s abbreviate everything humanly possible and the internet just adds to that. That’s my little rampage.

And hey, sorry we got to you so late. We’ve both been out and about. We’ll be posting soon.

  13. Kasie on August 2nd, 2009 8:49 pm

thats ok Bri. You guys have fun wuth what ever you do.

  14. Kasie on August 30th, 2009 11:43 pm

Hello once again. Here is a question for both of you. What do you guys think of True Blood the tv show? Do you think its a joke or is it pretty close to how it is for you guys as vampires?

  15. Brianna on August 31st, 2009 12:36 pm

    Hi Kasie!

I’m not sure Al really goes in for lots of TV, but I really enjoy True Blood – I just watched the second-to-last episode last night and I hope the season finale doesn’t leave me guessing as much as that episode.

I think most vampire TV shows and movies don’t show how vampires interact very well. For example, unlike Eric and Bill, I get along splendidly with my boss. And, we don’t have a Queen. But, the whole district idea and each vampire being able to hold a position in the vampire world, I would say that’s pretty accurate.

Also, just like the human world, there is violence, senseless criminal actions and political tensions. You would think we’ve evolved past that point, but not so much.

Anyway, I would take the TV show and books – both of which are really fun – with a grain of salt. It’s a great idea, but certainly is not written by a vampire. At least, not as far as I know.

    Dear, Brianna and or Alistair

“needing to pee every five minutes, but not being able to”.
Sounds like L.G.Smiths book, I remember reading a part in that where a women shortly after being turned, felt as though she needed to pee all the time but couldn’t. Coincidence?
Anyways I really do want to believe in this website but I just have to make sure that whats been told here is true. I have some information to go on.
    4 questions,
whats VHI stand for when it comes to the vampire government. Do you have any scars? Can vampires easily detect one another? And lastly, vampires kill people everyday, most vampires do, so why do you have connections to get synthetic blood… that’s very odd, what sort of special privileges do you have to get something like that.
if you can answer these questions perfectly, then I’ll believe that you are the real deal.

    regards The Unbeholden

  17. Alistair on April 1st, 2010 1:52 am

    Hey Unbeholden,

On the thing about “peeing” you’ll have to ask Brianna. I never had that problem. Maybe it’s a girl thing.

I’m not sure about your Vampire Government and mine, but I’m not familiar with “VHI”.

Do I have any scars? I did have but they cleared up after I was turned. I don’t have any currently.

Vampires don’t “kill people every day”. First of all, we don’t need that much blood and secondly, since we got the resources to produce synthetic blood and to harvest blood from donations, we don’t need to get blood from live Humans. In fact drinking Humans is forbidden currently. There is some opposition and I’m sure there are Vampires who break the law, but the bottom line is that drinking Humans these days is pretty dangerous. E.g., With all the medications people are on, God knows what junk you’ll get into your system if you aren’t careful. And with all those close-circuit TVs and cell phones with cameras, etc., etc., drinking Humans is likely to get you featured in a video on YouTube.

You don’t need special connections to get the blood you need. Do you need special connections to go buy groceries? Blood is readily available. We have a special network that delivers it – like milkmen used to deliver milk in the mornings. It’s no big deal.

On you believing in me or not. I’m quite happy to exist. If you don’t think I do then that doesn’t make any difference to me. I’ll go on being who I am and what I am.

    all the best to you,
    Alistair

  18. Brianna on April 2nd, 2010 11:33 pm

    Hey Unbeholden,

What’s this about peeing? I’m confused. Did I say something about peeing in a previous post? I have to say that there are times I don’t recall my exact verbage.
