Okay, is it just me, or is Alistair completely crazy? I mean, “the pleasure of a sneeze”? What does that even mean?
Anyway, while Al was enjoying his gargantuan sneeze and totally exposing himself to the guy he said is called “Wolf”, I was stuck behind a couch. Totally stuck. I couldn’t help Alistair by jumping up like a jack in the box, and there was no handy rock to aim at a nearby head. So, I used his distraction to think. The EMP wouldn’t do much good since by the time Al and I adjusted to zero light, the other guys would be too. I had a gun, but honestly I don’t know much about guns. I was totally afraid to fire it. So I was stuck.
I listened to the conversation and was surprised at Alistair’s suggestion. Did he really think that even if he won his silly sword fight that they’d let him go? Although I couldn’t see that Wolf guy, I could tell from his voice that he was bad news. Promised violence dripped out with every word.
When Alistair stepped back and mouthed “Go” at me I knew what he wanted me to do.
I counted until a hundred and then peaked around the edge of the couch. The room was empty so I scurried to the door. I had to crawl so no one would see me from the window.
Just as I got there I heard a hum and a scraping sound. I looked around and saw that metal plates were coming down to block the windows. I looked into the hall and saw the same thing happening with the windows there too.
I quickly retraced my steps back to the security guards’ changing room, hoping the small bathroom window wasn’t blocked. But, of course, it was.
I sat down, trying to remain calm. How was I supposed to get out now?
